Homeschool Orchard Day
October 10, 2011 is Tuttle's day for home school students. This is open to homeschool groups or to individual families. Guided tours will be offered during the day at the following times:
1:30 pm - Apples: Then and Now Tour or the Economic$ of Apples Tour
2:30 pm - Pumpkin Biology Tour

Cost is $4 per person per tour (or $6 for and pumpkin/apple tour). The Agrimaze or Kids Play Area is included.

Apples: Then & Now Tour
Ages: K-2nd Grade
Discover how apples are grown today, and how they were grown eighty years ago. This tour celebrates how time and technology have made changes in farm life. This tour takes you through the apple facilities where you will see cold storage, apple packing, cider press, and bee pollination hive. It focuses on the history of the farm and apple production, as well as, current developments. You will visit the apple trees to learn how they grow, and everyone takes home a small bag of apples that they picked.
The Economic$ of Apples Tour
Ages: 2-5th Grade
Students can imagine being apple farmers for a day as they tour the facilities where apples are grown, processed, and made into cider and learn about the role economics plays in farming. You wll also spend time in the orchard where everyone will pick a small bag of apples. This tour is designed to teach students about basic business and economic principles while they tour the orchard.
Pumpkin Biology Tour
Ages: K-2nd Grade
Bring life science class to the pumpkin patch for the Pumpkin Biology Tour. A Tuttle's educator will guide you through a twenty minute hands-on Pumpkin Discovery Time to learn about pollination, planting, seeds, nutrition, and pumpkin history. You will take a hayride to the pumpkin patch where everyone picks a small pumpkin!
