Poinsettias
|
Tuttle's grows a large selection of Poinsettias right in our
greenhouses, including the
beautiful new Winter Rose. You will not find better quality plants
anywhere, with our large blooms and luxuriant foliage. We grow two sizes; a six inch pot,
and an 8 inch pot. This years prices are $6.95 and $13.95. |
|
POINSETTIA
CARE : |
|
In winter, during their bloom
time, keep poinsettias in bright but indirect light (6 to 8 hours
of filtered sun daily) and away from drafts and heaters, which can
cause the leaves to drop. Plants thrive at room temperatures
during the day (60°F–75°F) and prefer slightly cooler nights
(60°F–65°F). Poinsettias are very cold sensitive, so keep them
away from chilly windows. Water plants only when the soil is dry.
In spring, after the bracts
become a muddy green, cut the plants back to about 6 to 8 inches
tall; continue watering, and begin fertilizing biweekly with a
balanced all-purpose fertilizer for flowering plants.
In summer, repot plants in
fresh soil less potting mix in slightly larger pots, and move
outdoors if desired to a spot with morning sun. Continue watering
and biweekly fertilizing. Prune plants to encourage a bushy,
compact habit.
Encouraging
Rebloom
Making poinsettias rebloom is a challenge. To induce flowering in
time for the holidays, continue watering plants but stop
fertilizing in early fall. Beginning on October 1, move the plants
to an absolutely dark room or closet each night, or place them
under a box so they receive at least 14 hours of uninterrupted
darkness per day—even light from a lamp can disrupt the
flowering. Depending on the cultivar, colorful bracts should
develop in 6 to 10 weeks. |
Wreaths
|
Decorated
Artificial Christmas wreaths: |
|
In the months of November and December we
sell beautiful artificial Christmas wreaths.
They are made here at the orchard by one of our staff. They
measure twenty-four inches in diameter, are very full and richly
decorated. We use many dried flowers, like Queen Anne’s lace and
yarrow, that are grown and picked here on the farm, as well as
tree limbs from the apple trees, grape vines from the grape
arbors, and homegrown bittersweet. We use a variety of colorful
ribbons and artificial birds, nests and berries to create
one-of-a-kind wreaths that you can be proud of for years to come.
We also have some twenty-four
inch fresh wreaths every year, solid fir and mixed greens. |
| Both the
artificial and fresh wreaths can be custom decorated to order. |
Gift Items
|
We
always have wonderful food gift items, like jams and jellies,
fancy salad dressings, relishes, salsas, bar-b-que sauces, maple
syrup in beautiful collector bottles, and of course our own famous
apple butter. There are Tuttle Orchards sweatshirts in green and
red, sized for adults and children, as well as other one-of-a-kind
gift ideas. |
